SIRCA II Collaborator and SiRC Assistant Director Dr. Arul Chib was awarded the ProsPER.Net-Scopus Young Scientist Award (YSA) for 2011 in ICT for Sustainable Development category and was recently featured in United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) publication, ProSPER.Net: Developing a New Generation of Leaders as one of the 3 finalists.
Dr. Chib’s research has focused in mHealth, especially the mobile phone usage for improving communication between and amongst communities and health workers in remote areas of China, India, Nepal, Peru, Thailand and Uganda. “[The award is] about allowing me to move into and learn more about the pillars in which I wouldn’t necessarily consider myself an expert,” he remarked.
Since 2009, YSA has annually been given to young scientists and researchers for their outstanding work in sustainable development. The recipients are provided with cash prize and a prestigious fellowship provided by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
Congratulations again to Dr. Chib, and we look forward to hear more wonderful news from previous and current SIRCA members’ achievements!
